Primary students have the opportunity to participate in some exciting electives this year! The cost of electives ranges from free to $10. Electives will be held on Thursday, March 1 from 9:00-3:30. Students received information about the different options and prices today. As each elective requires a certain number of students participating in order for it to occur, we would like you to indicate your child's first, second, third and fourth choices. Once we have determined numbers, we will be sending home a confirmation letter with a request for payment for the selected activity. Please return the elective choices sheet by Friday, February 3, 2010.

All of the electives sound very fun!

Last week we read a book in class called Ish by Peter Reynolds. The class really enjoyed the story. We had a really good discussion (or "book talk") about the book, and many students made some very meaningful comments about the author's message.
Here are some of our thoughts:

"I think the message is never give up. It doesn't atter what other people think. Believe in yourself." (KK)

"You just need your own thing to protect you from bullying. Gerald in Giraffes Can't Dance just needed his own music and Roman in Ish didn't need to do his drawings perfecgtly, he just needed to make them "ish." (ML)

"If someone says your writing is bad, it's not because your writing is yours and their writing is theirs. Your writing or drawing could change the world." (MA)

"Even though the brother said mean things about Ramon's drawings, Ramon should keep drawing because that's what he loves and does best." (WI)

"If you don't think your stuff is good because someone hurt your feelings, just remember back to all the things you should be proud of." (KW)

"Even though your drawing is "ish," it might make someone else happy." (AQ)

"Someone told me his drawings were better than mine and I told him yours might look better to some people, but I don't care. Our drawings are just different." (AN)

"It doesn't matter what anyone says about what you build. Just believe in yourself." (JS)

If you have any more comments to share about the book, please post them on the blog!

Hello Grade 2 students,

I have a mission for you today in the library. Please find three items and measure them. When you are done, post a comment with the name of the item and the measurement. Don't foget the cm!

Have fun!
Ms. Ferguson

I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing winter break! I was so excited to see everyone this morning. We had a great first day of Grade 2 in 2012! We had a New Year's party in class today where we reflected on some of the things we did in 2011 that we were most proud of, and set some new learning goals for 2012.

I have updated the spelling and W.A.L.T. sections of the website for this week. The January calendar and newsletter will be going home later this week.

Happy New Year!
Ms. Ferguson :)
