We will be having a quiz on 2-D geometry this Wednesday (March 28th). The learning goals for this unit are:
- name and describe 2-D shapes
- find lines of symmetry
- complete symmetrical shapes

A review sheet was sent home to help students prepare. There are also several games in the "Math Practice" section of the website that can be used for extra practice.

The chart of shape names we have used in class is below:

We have been learning about symmetry in our 2-D Geometry math unit. Shapes are symmetrical when you can fold them in half along a line of symmetry and the two sides line up perfectly. We have explored symmetry by cutting out shapes and folding them, and using mirras to check for lines of symmetry.

Today we folded a piece of paper in half and drew half of an image (e.g. half a flower) and then cut it out. When we opened up the paper we had a perfectly symmetrical picture!

Here are some of the symmetrical pictures we made:

We had our character assembly today about caring and honesty. Our class showed respect to all of the presenters and listened extremely well. I was very proud of them!

We made a movie about honesty that was played at the assembly. All of the students did a wonderful job in the movie!

Congratulations again to K.W. for her caring award, A.Q. for his honesty award and W.I. for his principal's award!

Ms. Ferguson :)

Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful March Break! It was so nice to see your smiling faces this morning. We have a busy week coming up as we prepare for the Character Assembly on Wednesday at 2:00. All parents are invited to this assembly. Our class will be presenting a video about honesty.

Ms. Ferguson :)

March Break has arrived! I wish everyone a fun, relaxing and safe holiday! See you March 19th!

This is just a reminder that primary electives are scheduled for tomorrow (March 8th) from 9:00-3:30. Students will come to our class first thing in the morning and then head to their electives from there. All students should bring extra snacks and drinks as I am sure they will be very hungry after all of their exciting activities. Please keep in mind that if you are leaving the school (for swimming or bowling), the hot lunches/milk will not be available so you will still need to bring a lunch.

Here are a few important reminders for specific electives:

Swimming - Don't forget to bring a bathing suit and towel!

Bowling - The snack bar will not be open at the bowling alley, so please bring your own snacks and lunch.

Scrapbooking - Remember to bring your pictures and a glue stick.

Outdoor Games - Bring an extra pair of clothes in case you get wet and some board games in case it is raining.

Have a wonderful elective day everyone!

I forgot to mention that tomorrow is Hawaiian day! Students are encouraged to wear Hawaiian shirts, flowers, etc. House points will be awarded to students who participate in this spirit day.

Sorry for the late notice!

Unfortunately we had to cancel electives last week due to the weather, but we are happy to announce that the primary electives have all be rescheduled for Thursday, March 8th, 2012! This will be a great day for students to explore some fun activities that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience. Please make sure your child comes prepared for his/her elective this Thursday!
