Our home reading program started today! Each student has been sent home with an orange/red home reading folder. The book sent home is at the current level that the student is reading at school. There is a reading log for you (or whoever reads with your child...Grandpa, babysitter, big sister, etc.) to initial once you have read the book. Students should read each book several times throughout the week as re-reading is a great way to strengthen reading skills! Students can also read other books at home of their own choosing and record them on the chart.

A chart entitled "Word Solving Strategies" was also included in the reading folder (click on the red link for an electronic copy). These are the strategies we will be using in class to help us read unknown words. Please use this chart to help your child when they come to a word they are having trouble with. You can watch a slideshow of our word solving strategies below.

Remember to return the home reading folder every Friday for a new book. Happy Reading!
