Dear students,
I would just like to thank you all very much for making my birthday very special. You are all very thoughtful and I am so thankful to have such a great group of students. Thank you for the surpise gift of working so well during math...a teacher couldn't ask for a better present!
From,
Ms. Ferguson :)

The December book orders went home today. They are due this Friday (December 2nd). It is a bit more rushed than usual because I want to make sure that you receive your orders before the winter holidays. I sent home a list of recommendations from the various book order flyers. There are some great books that would make wonderful gifts! If you want the order to be kept a secret from your child, just make a note on the order and I can call you when it comes in and we can arrange for someone to pick it up.

The spelling and W.A.L.T. sections have been updated so you can get a sneak peak at what we're learning this week in Grade 2!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I'll see you tomorrow!
Ms. Ferguson :)

We have a new "W.A.L.T." section on our class website. W.A.L.T. stands for "We are learning to," and this section will keep you updated about what we are learning about each week at school. I will try to update this section each weekend so that students can get a sneak peek of what we will be learning that week!

Ms. Ferguson :)

I have added some patterning games and activities to the "Math Practice" section of our class website. You will have a chance to make patterns, answer multiple choice questions, and even watch a cartoon dog dance if you solve his pattern riddles!
Have fun!
Ms. Ferguson :)

Students, please respond to the following question by posting your answer as a comment on our class blog. We will be taking some time to do this together during computer time on Tuesday.

What does peace mean to you?

I look forward to reading your comments.
Ms. Ferguson :)

At the students' request, here is a picture of my dog Winston dressed up on Halloween. We called him "Hairy" Potter.

We made some beautiful fall leaves artwork using watercolour paints. During this art activity we learned to:
- create texture by using paper towel for the leaves in our art
- paint with watercolours
- use warm colours for the fall leaves and cool colours for the background
- use line to outline the leaves to make them stand out

Check out the beautiful finished products!
Here is a slideshow that explains how we made this art:

Your child brought home an October Update today. In the envelope you will find the following:
1. A yellow rubric that shows you how they are doing with their academics
2. A green checklist that shows you how they are doing with their learning skills
3. A math assessment package from our Numbers to 50 unit
4. Any work from the month that we are not keeping in the class to put in our portfolios.

Please review the items with your child and return the following:
1. The envelope signed by a parent/caregiver
2. The bottom portion of the "Math Assessment: Information for Parents/Caregivers" note
3. The chapter task signed by a parent/caregiver (the one with the pink reminder sticker on it)

I hope you enjoy seeing some of the wonderful things your children are doing at school and discussing their future learning goals!

A math review package for our Data Management unit went home tonight. It includes a diagram that indicates all of the important parts of a graph. Students are asked to complete the survey/graph and the Venn diagram activity at home as practice for the quiz coming up next Wednesday (November 9th). If students return the review package by Tuesday, I will mark it and give them some additional feedback before the quiz. Have a great weekend everyone!
